All of us can probably use more money. The good thing is that with the rise of the gig economy, anyone can make extra income on their own time using their phone or computer. The best part is that these gig economy apps are flexible, easy to use, require very little to no startup costs, and allow you to earn extra income whenever it works for you.

Over the years, I’ve used dozens of different side hustle apps. These apps have worked out well for me. I’ve been able to use the extra income from my side hustles to pay off debt, build an emergency fund, and save for retirement. These side hustles even helped me to quit my job and start my own freelance business.

If you are looking to improve your finances, then picking up some side hustles and earning extra income is something you should consider.

Here are seven side hustle apps that you can use right now to earn extra income on your own time.

Board Dogs With Rover

If you like dogs, then Rover could be a great side hustle for you. This is an app that connects dog owners looking for dog sitters for their pups. To get started, simply create your profile, set your rates, and let customers know what services you offer. Owners can then book you to watch their dogs while they’re away.

If you already own a dog, then boarding dogs with Rover is almost a passive activity. You already have to take care of your dog, so watching a second dog shouldn’t add much more work to your plate. And getting paid while having fun with dogs is a win-win for most people.

How much you can make with Rover depends on how often you’re booked. In larger cities, you’ll probably have more demand and can charge a higher daily rate. I tend to average around $250 per month watching dogs part-time. You can make much more than that too, especially if you’re willing to watch multiple dogs.

Deliver Food With DoorDash, Uber Eats, And Grubhub

DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub are on-demand food delivery apps that allow customers to order food from their favorite restaurants. Over the past year, these apps have seen huge growth as a result of the pandemic. You can take advantage of this growth by signing up to be a delivery courier with these apps.

Each of these apps pays you per delivery, with pay typically ranging from $4 to $8 per delivery. The apps advertise that you can make up to $25 per hour, but how much you make depends on when you log in, the area you’re working in, and whether you are using one app or multiple apps.

Unlike rideshare apps, food delivery apps don’t require you to have a nice car. In fact, in most cities, you don’t even need to use a car at all. I do all of my deliveries using a bike. It’s a great way for me to make some extra money and get some exercise too. It’s like I’m getting paid to exercise!

Charge electric scooters with Lime

Depending on where you live, you may have noticed shared electric scooters out on the streets. You can make money from these scooters by signing up to be an electric scooter charger with a company like Lime.

Once you’ve signed up to be a scooter charger, Lime will send you charging cords that you can use to charge the electric scooters. When a scooter needs to be charged, bring it home, charge it overnight, then drop it off in designated areas the next morning. You’ll typically make $3 to $5 for each scooter you charge. If you charge a few scooters each night, you can make a couple hundred dollars each month.

Deliver Groceries With Shipt And Instacart

Grocery delivery apps like Shipt and Instacart have also seen a big influx of users in the wake of the pandemic. This makes now the perfect time to sign up to be a Shipt or Instacart shopper.

Here’s how these apps work. When you sign up, you’ll be able to use the apps and accept available orders. After you accept an order, you’ll shop for the order, then deliver it to the customer. You’re paid a commission for each order you accept and complete, as well as keep 100% of any tip the customer leaves. Generally, you can expect to make around $20-$25 per hour with Shipt or Instacart.

If you’re already going to be shopping, you can also combine your grocery shopping with the shopping you’re doing for someone else. Essentially, you can get paid while you’re grocery shopping.

Do Market Research With ProductTube

ProductTube is a market research app that will pay you to create short videos of yourself shopping for different items. The app sends you instructions about the type of video it wants you to create and you film the video using the app. These videos are typically less than 5 minutes long and pay between $5 and $25 per video.

ProductTube pays via Amazon gift cards. For most people, Amazon gift cards are as good as cash, but if you don’t spend a lot on Amazon, then this app might be less useful for you.

Sell things on eBay

If you’re like me, you probably have too much stuff in your house that you don’t use. Instead of letting your stuff collect dust, consider selling it on eBay. You’ll not only declutter your home, but you’ll also make some extra money as well. Don’t underestimate the value of your stuff. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

If you’re looking for a more advanced tactic, you can also consider flipping items that you buy at thrift stores and garage sales. You’d be surprised at how much good stuff you can find for cheap that you can resell for a profit.

Rent Out A Room On Airbnb

For many of us, our home is our largest asset. You can use your home to generate extra income by renting out a spare room on Airbnb. If you’re traveling, you can also consider renting out your entire house on Airbnb while you’re away.

The benefit of renting out your house on Airbnb is that it allows you to subsidize what is likely your largest expense. In some instances, you might fully cover your housing costs. I used to rent my guest room on Airbnb and in most months, the income from that one room was enough to cover my mortgage.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of ways to make extra income in today’s world. We live in the golden age of side hustling. When you think about it, there’s probably never been an easier time in history to make extra money.

If you are looking to make extra income, take advantage of these side hustle apps. It might surprise you how much you can make and what a side hustle can do for your finances. And if you combine it with all the advantages of a Lili checking account, you can vastly improve your financial health this year.
